As cannabis becomes more common, more companies have started reconsidering their positions about the use of cannabis with new employees. As people continue to use cannabis, the companies have begun to cease drug testing altogether in order to allow for these cannabis drug test restrictions. The reason behind this rather significant change in policy is simple. It is causing those who haven’t really done anything wrong to be disqualified.

Amazon was one of the recent companies that have started to remove cannabis drug testing. Additionally, many New Jersey companies have begun to follow suit. Even the NBA has begun to take the same idea into consideration. The MLB has already begun to focus their testing on performance enhancing drugs rather than on cannabis or THC products.

Note that these tests are involving cannabis in general, which includes the legal Delta 8.

The reasons behind the companies altering their policies is in part because of the changes to cannabis laws. These changes have a huge impact for many who enjoy a cannabinoid that the federal government has already legalized: Delta 8

In previous articles, we have discussed what makes Delta 8 so different from the more traditional Delta 9 THC. However, the first thing you should be aware of is Delta 8 provides fewer adverse effects while still offering the same benefits as Delta 9. This comes about thanks to the slightly different chemical makeup between the two. Because of this, many have already started giving Delta 8 a chance to help them with their various ailments.

Also, most drug tests can’t tell the difference between Delta 9, which is illegal in most states, and Delta 8. As a result, anyone taking these tests while on Delta 8 could fail the tests. This could lead to them finding themselves disqualified from whatever they’re testing for. That said, even in states where every type of cannabis is legal, many companies are still disqualifying applicants due to usage. As such, the requirement of these tests should be reconsidered or, at least, people should not be tested for legal substances.

As more people start using cannabis products, more companies will need to reconsider their stance on testing for all types of THC. With any luck, more companies will consider this new stance. After all, disqualifying potential employees because they take a legal substance isn’t fair or right. Be aware that it is highly unlikely that testing won’t occur when someone is noticeably impaired at work. This is especially likely when the employees drive or run heavy machinery as a part of their jobs.

Hopefully, as states consider their stance on cannabis, more businesses will be more lenient when it comes to drug testing employees for THC.
